Design Geek Advent Calendar

Here's a fun idea for those of you who love advent and typography. This isn't a completely free project, but if you have the extra time, money, and energy it could be a lot of fun to make.

I found this project over at Oh Happy Day.

You'll need:

  • 25 muslin bags (a set of 25 4x6 bags will cost about $10)
  • Iron-on transfer paper (costs about $10 for 12 8.5x11 sheets)
  • Ink jet printer
  • The Free printable from Oh Happy Day (this link automatically downloads a PDF file to your computer—just fyi)
  • Iron & ironing board

The free printable from Oh Happy Day will print out mirror-imaged so when you iron it on to your bags the numbers will read correctly.

Alternative ideas:

Instead of ironing onto muslin bags, you can iron the numbers onto scrap fabric. Cut the fabric out and safety pin it to your advent container of choice.

If your printer has the ability to print mirror images, you can also print this so it reads normally (essentially you'd be mirror-imaging the mirror-image), then cut and paste the numbers onto envelopes & use that as your advent calendar.
